Where is Kunt?

Kunt is a village of Gurdaspur tehsil in Gurdaspur district, Punjab, in the Majha region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Qadian, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Kahnuwan community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 028455, and it covers 120 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 769 people in Kunt: 425 men and 344 women, living in 144 households, an average of about 5.3 people per household. Spread over its 120 hectares, the population density works out to about 641 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 809 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 91, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 34 people, about 4 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 64.9 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 72.24 per cent and women at 56.03 per cent. The census recorded 247 workers, about 32 per cent of the village. Neighbouring villages include Dhindsa, Pindori Mian Singh, Ghot Khurd and Tugalwala.
