Where is Paniar?

Paniar is a village in Dinanagar tehsil of Gurdaspur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Gurdaspur, about 7 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dinanagar community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 028185, and it covers 448 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 4,537 people in Paniar: 2,356 men and 2,181 women, living in 883 households, an average of about 5.1 people per household. Spread over its 448 hectares, the population density works out to about 1,013 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 926 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 461, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 2,165 people, about 48 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.
