Where is Sidhwan?

Sidhwan is a village of Gurdaspur tehsil in Gurdaspur district, Punjab, in the Majha region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Dhariwal, about 5 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dhariwal community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 028315, and it covers 115 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 855 people in Sidhwan: 454 men and 401 women, living in 170 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 115 hectares, the population density works out to about 743 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 883 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 95, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 100 people, about 12 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 70 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 73.3 per cent and women at 66.39 per cent. The census recorded 264 workers, about 31 per cent of the village. Irrigation came mainly from canals (20 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (81 hectares). About 12 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
