Where is Harpura?

Harpura is a village in Batala tehsil of Gurdaspur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Qadian, about 9 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Qadian community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 028633, and it covers 625 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,864 people in Harpura: 1,512 men and 1,352 women, living in 479 households, an average of about 6.0 people per household. Spread over its 625 hectares, the population density works out to about 458 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 894 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 293, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 895 people, about 31 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 69.39 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 73.9 per cent and women at 64.51 per cent.
