Where is Chakowal Brahmana?

Chakowal Brahmana is a village in Hoshiarpur tehsil of Hoshiarpur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Hoshiarpur, about 20 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Hoshiarpur-I community development block and is served by the Chakowal--Brahmana gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031694, and it covers 167 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 843 people in Chakowal Brahmana: 436 men and 407 women, living in 180 households, an average of about 4.7 people per household. Spread over its 167 hectares, the population density works out to about 505 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 933 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 97, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 325 people, about 39 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 78.02 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 80.51 per cent and women at 75.28 per cent. The census recorded 341 workers, about 40 per cent of the village. Of the 314 main workers, the largest group, 150, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 100 cultivators on their own land and 61 agricultural labourers. A further 27 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
