Where is Gorsian?

Gorsian is a village in Dasua tehsil of Hoshiarpur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Dasua, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dasua community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030786, and it covers 229 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 868 people in Gorsian: 414 men and 454 women, living in 209 households, an average of about 4.2 people per household. Spread over its 229 hectares, the population density works out to about 379 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1097 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 90, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 35 people, about 4 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 83.29 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 84.68 per cent and women at 82.1 per cent. The census recorded 198 workers, about 23 per cent of the village. Of the 190 main workers, the largest group, 97, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 77 other workers in trade, transport and services and 15 agricultural labourers.
