Where is Nur Talai?

Nur Talai is a village of Hoshiarpur tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Hoshiarpur, about 18 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Hoshiarpur-I community development block and is served by the Nur--Talai gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031415, and it covers 136 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 284 people in Nur Talai: 146 men and 138 women, living in 59 households, an average of about 4.8 people per household. Spread over its 136 hectares, the population density works out to about 209 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 945 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 39, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 165 people, about 58 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 74.69 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 79.53 per cent and women at 69.49 per cent. The census recorded 102 workers, about 36 per cent of the village. A further 27 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (74 hectares). About 31 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
