Where is Patiari?

Patiari is a village of Hoshiarpur tehsil in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Hoshiarpur, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Hoshiarpur-II community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 031483, and it covers 1,027 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 558 people in Patiari: 279 men and 279 women, living in 103 households, an average of about 5.4 people per household. Spread over its 1,027 hectares, the population density works out to about 54 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1000 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 63, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 348 people, about 62 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 87.68 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 91.8 per cent and women at 83.67 per cent. The census recorded 145 workers, about 26 per cent of the village. Of the 111 main workers, the largest group, 60, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 30 agricultural labourers and 12 cultivators on their own land. A further 34 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
