Chhaula is a village in Phillaur tehsil of Jalandhar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Phillaur, about 6 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Phillaur community development block and is served by the Sholey gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030113, and it covers 429 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 468 people in Chhaula: 255 men and 213 women, living in 104 households, an average of about 4.5 people per household. Spread over its 429 hectares, the population density works out to about 109 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 835 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 62, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 173 people, about 37 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 79.8 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 84.62 per cent and women at 74.05 per cent. The census recorded 312 workers, about 67 per cent of the village. Of the 271 main workers, the largest group, 145, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 123 other workers in trade, transport and services and 2 agricultural labourers. A further 41 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (390 hectares). About 39 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
