Where is Gaunsuwal?

Gaunsuwal is a village of Nakodar tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Nakodar, about 15 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Nakodar community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030001, and it covers 128 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,040 people in Gaunsuwal: 513 men and 527 women, living in 178 households, an average of about 5.8 people per household. Spread over its 128 hectares, the population density works out to about 812 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 1027 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 147, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 903 people, about 87 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 57.45 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 66.67 per cent and women at 48.33 per cent. The census recorded 336 workers, about 32 per cent of the village.
