Where is Kohja?

Kohja is a village of Jalandhar West tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Bhogpur, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Bhogpur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030595, and it covers 303 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 968 people in Kohja: 493 men and 475 women, living in 200 households, an average of about 4.8 people per household. Spread over its 303 hectares, the population density works out to about 319 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 963 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 104, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 423 people, about 44 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 84.95 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 89.7 per cent and women at 80.09 per cent. The census recorded 333 workers, about 34 per cent of the village.
