Where is Mawai?

Mawai is a village of Phillaur tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Nurmahal, about 5 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Nurmahal community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 030046, and it covers 225 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 831 people in Mawai: 418 men and 413 women, living in 189 households, an average of about 4.4 people per household. Spread over its 225 hectares, the population density works out to about 369 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 988 women for every 1,000 men.
