Where is Parjian Kalan?

Parjian Kalan is a village of Shahkot tehsil in Jalandhar district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Shahkot, about 11 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Shahkot community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029724, and it covers 579 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,569 people in Parjian Kalan: 829 men and 740 women, living in 295 households, an average of about 5.3 people per household. Spread over its 579 hectares, the population density works out to about 271 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 893 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 145, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 816 people, about 52 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 79.07 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 82.86 per cent and women at 74.89 per cent.
