Jorki Kankarwali is a village in Fazilka tehsil of Fazilka district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Fazilka, about 11 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Fazilka community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 035061, and it covers 891 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,626 people in Jorki Kankarwali: 870 men and 756 women, living in 296 households, an average of about 5.5 people per household. Spread over its 891 hectares, the population density works out to about 182 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 869 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 201, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 462 people, about 28 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 64 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 73.68 per cent and women at 53.06 per cent. The census recorded 556 workers, about 34 per cent of the village. Of the 539 main workers, the largest group, 149, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 137 agricultural labourers and 132 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 17 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from canals (757 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (2 hectares). About 73 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
