Where is Bhandal Dona?

Bhandal Dona is a village in Kapurthala tehsil of Kapurthala district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Doaba region, and the 2011 directory recorded Kapurthala, about 13 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Kapurthala community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029295, and it covers 187 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,063 people in Bhandal Dona: 532 men and 531 women, living in 192 households, an average of about 5.5 people per household. Spread over its 187 hectares, the population density works out to about 568 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 998 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 123, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 437 people, about 41 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 77.02 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 80.93 per cent and women at 73.08 per cent. The census recorded 347 workers, about 33 per cent of the village. Of the 225 main workers, the largest group, 101, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 86 other workers in trade, transport and services and 28 agricultural labourers. A further 122 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
