Where is Chak?

Chak is a village of Kapurthala tehsil in Kapurthala district, Punjab, in the Doaba region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Kapurthala, about 16 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Kapurthala community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 029306, and it covers 149 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 309 people in Chak: 167 men and 142 women, living in 62 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 149 hectares, the population density works out to about 207 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 850 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 41, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 189 people, about 61 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 75.37 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 81.7 per cent and women at 66.96 per cent. The census recorded 119 workers, about 39 per cent of the village.
