Where is Bhattian Rural?

Bhattian Rural is a village in Ludhiana West tehsil of Ludhiana district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Ludhiana, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Ludhiana-II community development block and is served by the Bhattian gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033657, and it covers 315 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,234 people in Bhattian Rural: 640 men and 594 women, living in 245 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 315 hectares, the population density works out to about 392 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 928 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 116, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 226 people, about 18 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 84.97 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 86.06 per cent and women at 83.8 per cent. The census recorded 427 workers, about 35 per cent of the village. Of the 408 main workers, the largest group, 229, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 150 cultivators on their own land and 19 agricultural labourers. A further 19 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
