Where is Swaddi Khurd?

Swaddi Khurd is a village in Jagraon tehsil of Ludhiana district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Jagraon, about 5 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sidhwan Bet community development block and is served by the Sawadi Khurd gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033796, and it covers 187 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,136 people in Swaddi Khurd: 570 men and 566 women, living in 219 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 187 hectares, the population density works out to about 607 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 993 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 92, about 8 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 326 people, about 29 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 83.62 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 89 per cent and women at 78.33 per cent. The census recorded 354 workers, about 31 per cent of the village. Of the 326 main workers, the largest group, 140, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 138 other workers in trade, transport and services and 43 agricultural labourers. A further 28 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
