Where is Madarpura?

Madarpura is a village of Jagraon tehsil in Ludhiana district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Nakodar, about 20 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sidhwan Bet community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033840, and it covers 221 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 676 people in Madarpura: 357 men and 319 women, living in 135 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 221 hectares, the population density works out to about 306 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 894 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 75, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 324 people, about 48 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 72.88 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 78.46 per cent and women at 66.9 per cent. The census recorded 174 workers, about 26 per cent of the village. Irrigation came mainly from canals (25 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (174 hectares). About 22 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 8 hours a day. The census recorded 43 cultivators and 115 agricultural labourers, so farming supports many labouring families as well as landholders.

Neighbouring villages include Talwara (Jagraon), Khudai Chak, Sheikh Qutab and Gorsian Qadar Baksh.
