Where is Lakhmirwala?

Lakhmirwala is a village in Budhlada tehsil of Mansa district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Mansa, about 15 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Budhlada community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 036023, and it covers 632 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,701 people in Lakhmirwala: 913 men and 788 women, living in 341 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 632 hectares, the population density works out to about 269 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 863 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 190, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 515 people, about 30 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 57.05 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 64.08 per cent and women at 48.85 per cent. The census recorded 859 workers, about 50 per cent of the village. Of the 516 main workers, the largest group, 436, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 68 other workers in trade, transport and services and 11 agricultural labourers. A further 343 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Farming covers most of Lakhmirwala's land. Of the village's 632 hectares, 593 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and 537 hectares of it were irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from canals (537 hectares). About 39 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 10 hours a day. With 454 cultivators and 328 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.
