Where is Bhajurah?

Bhajurah is a village in Pathankot tehsil of Pathankot district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Sujanpur, about 3 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sujanpur community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 027459, and it covers 134 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 790 people in Bhajurah: 443 men and 347 women, living in 152 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 134 hectares, the population density works out to about 590 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 783 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 98, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 279 people, about 35 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 82.66 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 87.6 per cent and women at 76.68 per cent. The census recorded 268 workers, about 34 per cent of the village. Of the 248 main workers, the largest group, 188, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 35 agricultural labourers and 19 cultivators on their own land. A further 20 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from canals (24 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (84 hectares). About 26 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
