Where is Farida Nagar?

Farida Nagar is a village in Pathankot tehsil of Pathankot district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Pathankot, about 16 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Pathankot community development block and is served by the Faridanagar gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 027534, and it covers 322 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,614 people in Farida Nagar: 844 men and 770 women, living in 332 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over its 322 hectares, the population density works out to about 501 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 912 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 159, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 344 people, about 21 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 85.64 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 90.2 per cent and women at 80.71 per cent. The census recorded 537 workers, about 33 per cent of the village. Of the 291 main workers, the largest group, 200, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 76 cultivators on their own land and 14 agricultural labourers. A further 246 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from canals (78 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (151 hectares). About 93 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
