Where is Banera Khurd?

Banera Khurd is a village in Nabha tehsil of Patiala district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Nabha, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Nabha community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 036302, and it covers 349 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,186 people in Banera Khurd: 647 men and 539 women, living in 240 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over its 349 hectares, the population density works out to about 340 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 833 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 129, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 478 people, about 40 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 67.36 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 73.26 per cent and women at 60.29 per cent. The census recorded 381 workers, about 32 per cent of the village. Of the 310 main workers, the largest group, 154, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 138 cultivators on their own land and 12 agricultural labourers. A further 71 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Nabha, the tehsil headquarters, and Patiala, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Banera kalan, Dewangarh and Narmana.
