Where is Galoli?

Galoli is a village of Patran tehsil in Patiala district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Patran, about 18 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Patran community development block and is served by the Galoli, Udham Singh Nagar gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 036235, and it covers 1,029 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,772 people in Galoli: 1,442 men and 1,330 women, living in 496 households, an average of about 5.6 people per household. Spread over its 1,029 hectares, the population density works out to about 269 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 922 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 387, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,416 people, about 51 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 62.6 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 70.27 per cent and women at 54.42 per cent. The census recorded 683 workers, about 25 per cent of the village. A further 84 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (951 hectares). About 78 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 8 hours a day. With 313 cultivators and 264 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.
