Where is Dhaulran?

Dhaulran is a village in Chamkaur Sahib tehsil of Rupnagar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Puadh region, and the 2011 directory recorded Chamkaur Sahib, about 5 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Chamkaur Sahib community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 038835, and it covers 222 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 515 people in Dhaulran: 268 men and 247 women, living in 86 households, an average of about 6.0 people per household. Spread over its 222 hectares, the population density works out to about 232 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 922 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 44, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 276 people, about 54 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 78.77 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 82.23 per cent and women at 75.11 per cent. The census recorded 175 workers, about 34 per cent of the village. Of the 149 main workers, the largest group, 53, were agricultural labourers, ahead of 47 other workers in trade, transport and services and 45 cultivators on their own land. A further 26 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Farming covers most of Dhaulran's land. Of the village's 222 hectares, 169 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and 166 hectares of it were irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (166 hectares). About 40 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 7 hours a day. The census recorded 47 cultivators and 61 agricultural labourers, so farming supports many labouring families as well as landholders.

Neighbouring villages include Bassi Gujjran, Bir Guru, Kiri Afghana and Khera.
