The 2011 directory recorded Anandpur Sahib, about 4 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Anandpur Sahib community development block and has its own gram panchayat. The 2011 census counted 1,214 people in Ganguwal: 590 men and 624 women, living in 230 households, an average of about 5.3 people per household.
