Where is Tibba Nangal?

Tibba Nangal is a village in Anandpur Sahib tehsil of Rupnagar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Puadh region, and the 2011 directory recorded Anandpur Sahib, about 22 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Nurpur Bedi community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 038481, and it covers 623 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,225 people in Tibba Nangal: 633 men and 592 women, living in 235 households, an average of about 5.2 people per household. Spread over its 623 hectares, the population density works out to about 197 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 935 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 134, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 336 people, about 27 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 70.49 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 81.92 per cent and women at 58.74 per cent. The census recorded 539 workers, about 44 per cent of the village. Of the 393 main workers, the largest group, 198, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 110 cultivators on their own land and 83 agricultural labourers. A further 146 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (88 hectares). About 47 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 14 hours a day. The census recorded 113 cultivators and 128 agricultural labourers, so farming supports many labouring families as well as landholders.

Anandpur Sahib, the tehsil headquarters, and Rupnagar city, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Balewal, Jhandian, Bassali and Bahman Majra.
