Cholta Khurd is a village of Kharar tehsil in SAS Nagar district, Punjab, in the Puadh region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Kharar, about 5 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Kharar community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 039117, and it covers 275 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,524 people in Cholta Khurd: 791 men and 733 women, living in 304 households, an average of about 5.0 people per household. Spread over its 275 hectares, the population density works out to about 554 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 927 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 168, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 617 people, about 40 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 81.42 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 85.19 per cent and women at 77.37 per cent. The census recorded 438 workers, about 29 per cent of the village. Of the 429 main workers, the largest group, 221, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 102 cultivators on their own land and 72 agricultural labourers. A further 9 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
