Where is Dosarna?

Dosarna is a village in Kharar tehsil of SAS Nagar district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Puadh region, and the 2011 directory recorded Kurali, about 2 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Majri community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 039015, and it covers 276 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,000 people in Dosarna: 520 men and 480 women, living in 190 households, an average of about 5.3 people per household. Spread over its 276 hectares, the population density works out to about 362 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 923 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 99, about 10 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 243 people, about 24 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 87.24 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 92.86 per cent and women at 80.94 per cent. The census recorded 305 workers, about 30 per cent of the village. Of the 289 main workers, the largest group, 128, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 123 other workers in trade, transport and services and 20 agricultural labourers. A further 16 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Farming covers most of Dosarna's land. Of the village's 276 hectares, 212 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and 139 hectares of it were irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (139 hectares). About 61 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 12 hours a day. With 136 cultivators and 21 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.

The directory recorded Kurali, about 2 kilometres away, as the nearest town, and the nearest railway station was within five kilometres. Kharar, the tehsil headquarters, and Mohali, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Neholka, Mullanpur, Chatauli and Mundhon Mastana.
