Where is Mahiwala?

Mahiwala is a village of Dera Bassi tehsil in SAS Nagar district, Punjab, in the Puadh region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Dera Bassi, about 3 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dera Bassi community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 039328, and it covers 185 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 364 people in Mahiwala: 205 men and 159 women, living in 71 households, an average of about 5.1 people per household. Spread over its 185 hectares, the population density works out to about 197 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 776 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 50, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 7 people, about 2 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.
