The village falls in the Balachaur community development block and is served by the Mehatpur gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 032458, and it covers 504 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,266 people in Mahitpur: 1,138 men and 1,128 women, living in 530 households, an average of about 4.3 people per household. Spread over its 504 hectares, the population density works out to about 450 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 991 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 203, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 585 people, about 26 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.
