Where is Attari?

Attari is a village of Muktsar tehsil in Sri Muktsar Sahib district, Punjab, in the Malwa region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Sri Muktsar Sahib, about 9 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Muktsar community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 035414, and it covers 514 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 800 people in Attari: 416 men and 384 women, living in 147 households, an average of about 5.4 people per household. Spread over its 514 hectares, the population density works out to about 156 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 923 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 110, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 298 people, about 37 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 53.91 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 57.42 per cent and women at 50.15 per cent. The census recorded 229 workers, about 29 per cent of the village.
