Where is Dalairi?

Dalairi is a village of Patti tehsil in Tarn Taran district, Punjab, in the Majha region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Patti, about 26 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Bhikhiwind community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 038054, and it covers 496 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,254 people in Dalairi: 649 men and 605 women, living in 217 households, an average of about 5.8 people per household. Spread over its 496 hectares, the population density works out to about 253 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 932 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 181, about 14 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 424 people, about 34 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 55.45 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 62.23 per cent and women at 48.16 per cent. The census recorded 400 workers, about 32 per cent of the village. A further 73 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from canals (450 hectares). Farm power supply was recorded at 8 hours a day. With 184 cultivators and 138 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.
