History
Patti is an old town and tehsil headquarters of Tarn Taran district, one of the historic towns of the Majha region with roots going back centuries.
After Partition, Patti became part of the border belt. When Tarn Taran district was created in 2006, the town joined the new district. Its railway station connected it toward Amritsar and the region.
Geography & people
Patti stands south-west of Tarn Taran city, in wheat and paddy country. The 2011 census counted 40,976 residents. The town is the bazaar, court and school centre for its tehsil.
Places of interest
Gurdwara Bibi Rajni Ji is Patti's principal religious site. The grain market, the railway station and the old part of town are also worth seeing.
Notable people
Patti is known for its farmers, traders and kabaddi players; this part of Majha has sent many young men to the armed forces.
ਇਤਿਹਾਸ
ਪੱਟੀ ਤਰਨ ਤਾਰਨ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਕਸਬਾ ਅਤੇ ਤਹਿਸੀਲ ਸਦਰ ਮੁਕਾਮ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਮਾਝੇ ਦੇ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਕਸਬਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਦੀਆਂ ਪੁਰਾਣੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
ਵੰਡ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਪੱਟੀ ਸਰਹੱਦੀ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਬਣ ਗਈ। 2006 ਵਿੱਚ ਤਰਨ ਤਾਰਨ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਬਣਨ ਉੱਤੇ ਇਹ ਨਵੇਂ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਰੇਲਵੇ ਸਟੇਸ਼ਨ ਨੇ ਕਸਬੇ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਅਤੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਿਆ।

ਪੱਟੀ ਤਰਨ ਤਾਰਨ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਦੱਖਣ-ਪੱਛਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਥਿਤ ਹੈ। ਇਲਾਕਾ ਕਣਕ ਅਤੇ ਝੋਨੇ ਦੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।
2011 ਦੀ ਮਰਦਮਸ਼ੁਮਾਰੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਆਬਾਦੀ 40,976 ਸੀ। ਕਸਬਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਹਿਸੀਲ ਲਈ ਬਾਜ਼ਾਰ, ਅਦਾਲਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਕੂਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਹੈ।

ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਬੀਬੀ ਰਜਨੀ ਜੀ ਪੱਟੀ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਸਥਾਨ ਹੈ। ਅਨਾਜ ਮੰਡੀ, ਰੇਲਵੇ ਸਟੇਸ਼ਨ ਅਤੇ ਕਸਬੇ ਦਾ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਵੀ ਦੇਖਣਯੋਗ ਹਨ।
