History
Bhikhiwind is a border town of Tarn Taran district near Patti. Before Partition it was an ordinary rural town of the Majha; after 1947 it became part of the border belt.
The town developed around its grain market, and the railway station connected it to the region. When Tarn Taran district was created in 2006, Bhikhiwind joined the new district.
Geography & people
Bhikhiwind stands near the border, north-west of Patti, in wheat and paddy country. The 2011 census counted 20,526 residents. The presence of the Border Security Force is part of life here.

ਭਿੱਖੀਵਿੰਡ ਤਰਨ ਤਾਰਨ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਸਰਹੱਦੀ ਕਸਬਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਪੱਟੀ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਸਥਿਤ ਹੈ। ਵੰਡ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਇਹ ਮਾਝੇ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਆਮ ਪੇਂਡੂ ਕਸਬਾ ਸੀ; 1947 ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਇਹ ਸਰਹੱਦੀ ਪੱਟੀ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ।
ਕਸਬਾ ਅਨਾਜ ਮੰਡੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਵਿਕਸਿਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਰੇਲਵੇ ਸਟੇਸ਼ਨ ਨੇ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਖੇਤਰ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਿਆ। 2006 ਵਿੱਚ ਤਰਨ ਤਾਰਨ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਬਣਨ ਉੱਤੇ ਭਿੱਖੀਵਿੰਡ ਨਵੇਂ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਇਆ।
