Where is Kalsian Kalan?

Kalsian Kalan is a village of Patti tehsil in Tarn Taran district, Punjab, in the Majha region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Patti, about 18 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Bhikhiwind community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 038139, and it covers 1,826 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 6,702 people in Kalsian Kalan: 3,527 men and 3,175 women, living in 1,130 households, an average of about 5.9 people per household. Spread over its 1,826 hectares, the population density works out to about 367 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 900 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 861, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 2,255 people, about 34 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 57.54 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 63.75 per cent and women at 50.77 per cent.
