Where is Mastgarh?

Mastgarh is a village in Patti tehsil of Tarn Taran district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Majha region, and the 2011 directory recorded Khem Karan, about 7 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Valtoha community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 038104, and it covers 698 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,017 people in Mastgarh: 1,070 men and 947 women, living in 375 households, an average of about 5.4 people per household. Spread over its 698 hectares, the population density works out to about 289 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 885 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 326, about 16 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 711 people, about 35 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 51.92 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 56.02 per cent and women at 47.38 per cent. The census recorded 586 workers, about 29 per cent of the village. A further 36 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Patti, the tehsil headquarters, and Tarn Taran town, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Nurwala, Dhul Nau, Sankatra and Kals.
