Where is Mohanpura?

Mohanpura is a village of Tarn Taran tehsil in Tarn Taran district, Punjab, in the Majha region of the state. The 2011 directory recorded Tarn Taran, about 22 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Chohla Sahib community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 037978, and it covers 405 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,690 people in Mohanpura: 893 men and 797 women, living in 332 households, an average of about 5.1 people per household. Spread over its 405 hectares, the population density works out to about 417 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 892 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 187, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 708 people, about 42 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 71.39 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 79.82 per cent and women at 62.22 per cent. Irrigation came mainly from canals (186 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (86 hectares). About 133 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
