Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff escaped unhurt on Sunday evening after gunmen opened fire near Pushpa Narsee Park in Mumbai's Juhu area, Mumbai Police said. His driver, Firdaus, was injured in the left hand and was reported to be out of danger, while an auto-rickshaw driver, identified only as Chauhan, was also injured and is undergoing treatment. A social media post in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the attack, but police have not confirmed or authenticated that claim.

What happened in Juhu

Police said the firing took place at around 7 pm on Sunday, October 18, as Shroff was returning after a private event near the park, where reports say he plays football on Sundays. Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohit Kumar Garg told reporters the actor did not sustain any gunshot injury and is completely safe. The Times of India reported that doctors at Nanavati Hospital, where Shroff and his driver were taken, found a few abrasions on the actor but no bullet wounds.

The Indian Express reported that five rounds were fired and that police suspect the assailants had carried out a recce and knew the actor's routine. The attackers fled on a motorcycle towards SV Road and left the bike outside Andheri (West) railway station, the newspaper said. Police have obtained CCTV images of two men suspected to be involved in the firing.

The gang claim police have not confirmed

Hours after the firing, a post attributed to Anil Pandit and Harman Sandhu claimed responsibility in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The post said the actor had been warned not to work with Salman Khan and threatened others in the Mumbai film industry who work with Khan. Hindustan Times reported that Mumbai Police has not confirmed the gang's alleged involvement, and The Indian Express said police are yet to verify the post. No complaint from Shroff about past threat calls was on record, an officer told The Indian Express.

Manhunt and official reaction

Mumbai Police has formed 15 teams, including Crime Branch and local police personnel, to trace the attackers, and a forensic team has conducted a preliminary analysis of the scene and the vehicle. Garg said further information would be shared as it becomes available. The case is likely to be transferred to the Mumbai Crime Branch, according to The Indian Express, which also reported that no one had been detained by late Sunday night.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke to Shroff and called the Mumbai Police Commissioner, directing him to expedite the investigation and take strict action. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the Shroff family at their home late on Sunday night, condemned the incident and said no gang would be allowed to operate with impunity in Mumbai. Shinde said Mumbai would not be allowed to return to the gang warfare of the past, and urged celebrities and others to inform police immediately about any threatening calls or messages.

Earlier attacks on film personalities

The firing is the latest in a series of attacks and threats linked in reporting to the Bishnoi gang's dispute with Salman Khan. In February this year, five rounds were fired outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty's residence in Juhu, an attack the Bishnoi gang claimed, The Times of India reported. In April 2024, two men on a motorcycle fired outside Khan's Galaxy Apartments in Bandra, and Mumbai Police arrested several suspects it linked to the gang.
