Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann about Punjab's flood situation after landing in Delhi, according to agency reports in late September.

Officials said 1,044 villages were affected, with Gurdaspur the worst hit where 32 villages faced severe inundation. Relief and rescue work was underway with the administration monitoring river levels.

The state has seen repeated flooding this monsoon, damaging crops and homes in low-lying areas along the Ravi and Beas.
