Second Gurdwara Fired At Near Jagraon in 24 Hours

Two masked men fired at the room of the head sewadar of Gurdwara Manji Sahib in Rajoana Kalan village, Jagraon, Ludhiana district, early on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the second shooting at a Sikh shrine in the district in just over 24 hours. Nobody was hurt.

Police say they are looking at both incidents together, and that CCTV footage has captured the attackers.

What happened at Rajoana Kalan?

According to police, two men on a motorcycle with a covered number plate reached the gurdwara around 3 am. One reportedly went in, paid obeisance and circled the Nishan Sahib before leaving and firing towards the room of head sewadar Baba Baldev Singh. A bullet hit the door and a wall.

Baldev Singh told police he had opened the main gate and gone into the bathroom attached to his room when he heard footsteps, then gunshots and breaking glass. He stayed locked inside until the men left. Ludhiana (rural) SSP Ankur Gupta visited the spot, and an FIR has been registered against unidentified persons at Sudhar police station. DSP Karan Singh Sandhu said the attackers were caught on CCTV and would be apprehended soon.

How is it linked to the Gagra firing?

On Monday night, a masked man fired at least two shots at Gurdwara Sri Gopalsar Sahib in Gagra village near Jagraon, according to Indian Express and Hindustan Times. Police registered an FIR for attempt to murder at Sadar police station.

The Indian Express reports that he left a letter that allegedly threatened chief sewadar Baba Amarjit Singh and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Gurinder Singh Rumi, and contained derogatory remarks about Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj. The letter allegedly objected to the honouring of Akali and BJP leaders at the shrine. These are contents of the letter as reported; police have not announced a motive or confirmed a link between the two attacks.

Press Trust of India reports that the BJP attacked the Punjab government over the two incidents and demanded immediate arrests. The firings come as Punjab's parties are in talks and sparring ahead of the 2027 elections.

ਪੁਲਿਸ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਢਕੀ ਹੋਈ ਨੰਬਰ ਪਲੇਟ ਵਾਲੇ ਮੋਟਰਸਾਈਕਲ 'ਤੇ ਦੋ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਤੜਕੇ ਕਰੀਬ 3 ਵਜੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰੇ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ। ਦੱਸਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਅੰਦਰ ਗਿਆ, ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕਿਆ, ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਪਰਿਕਰਮਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਆ ਕੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਸੇਵਾਦਾਰ ਬਾਬਾ ਬਲਦੇਵ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਕਮਰੇ ਵੱਲ ਗੋਲੀ ਚਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਗੋਲੀ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਅਤੇ ਕੰਧ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਗੀ।
