It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Nakodar, about 17 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Sidhwan Bet community development block and is served by the Talwara gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 033839, and it covers 389 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,438 people in Talwara (Jagraon): 738 men and 700 women, living in 265 households, an average of about 5.4 people per household. Spread over its 389 hectares, the population density works out to about 370 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 949 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 180, about 13 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,086 people, about 76 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 66.85 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 72.98 per cent and women at 60.42 per cent. The census recorded 410 workers, about 29 per cent of the village.
