Jati Majra is a village in Dhuri tehsil of Sangrur district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Dhuri, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Malerkotla-I community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 039633, and it covers 179 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 814 people in Jati Majra: 433 men and 381 women, living in 147 households, an average of about 5.5 people per household. Spread over its 179 hectares, the population density works out to about 455 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 880 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 77, about 9 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 130 people, about 16 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 76.8 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 84.63 per cent and women at 67.65 per cent. The census recorded 358 workers, about 44 per cent of the village. Of the 340 main workers, the largest group, 245, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 85 cultivators on their own land and 10 agricultural labourers. A further 18 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (159 hectares). About 20 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds.
