Where is Gaunspura?

Gaunspura is a village in Rampura Phul tehsil of Bathinda district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Bhagta Bhai Ka, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Bhagta Bhaika community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 035650, and it covers 363 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 694 people in Gaunspura: 356 men and 338 women, living in 119 households, an average of about 5.8 people per household. Spread over its 363 hectares, the population density works out to about 191 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 949 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 74, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 303 people, about 44 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 64.52 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 71.29 per cent and women at 57.43 per cent. The census recorded 209 workers, about 30 per cent of the village. Of the 193 main workers, the largest group, 89, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 72 agricultural labourers and 28 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 16 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
