Where is Natheha?

Natheha is a village in Talwandi Sabo tehsil of Bathinda district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Talwandi Sabo, about 12 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Talwandi Sabo community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 035918, and it covers 1,114 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 2,745 people in Natheha: 1,483 men and 1,262 women, living in 513 households, an average of about 5.4 people per household. Spread over its 1,114 hectares, the population density works out to about 246 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 851 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 325, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 887 people, about 32 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 57.56 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 63.97 per cent and women at 50.13 per cent. The census recorded 1,104 workers, about 40 per cent of the village. Of the 741 main workers, the largest group, 447, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 209 agricultural labourers and 69 other workers in trade, transport and services. A further 363 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Farming covers most of Natheha's land. Of the village's 1,114 hectares, 1,030 hectares were net sown area in the 2011 record, and 1,015 hectares of it were irrigated. Irrigation came mainly from canals (953 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (62 hectares). About 84 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 4 hours a day. The census recorded 458 cultivators and 511 agricultural labourers, so farming supports many labouring families as well as landholders.

Treated tap water was available in the village. The village had its own post office. It also had a PDS ration shop, mobile phone coverage and an internet common service centre. It had no bank branch or ATM in the 2011 record; the nearest bank was more than ten kilometres away. Domestic electricity supply was recorded at 10 hours a day.

Neighbouring villages include Golewala, Nangla, Fatah Balu and Kalalwala.
