Where is Bhaini?

Bhaini is a village in Dharamkot tehsil of Moga district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Dharamkot, about 13 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Dharamkot community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 034194, and it covers 255 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 566 people in Bhaini: 308 men and 258 women, living in 115 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over its 255 hectares, the population density works out to about 222 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 838 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 65, about 11 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 99 people, about 17 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 66.87 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 70.45 per cent and women at 62.87 per cent. The census recorded 196 workers, about 35 per cent of the village. Irrigation came mainly from canals (31 hectares) and wells and tube-wells (200 hectares). About 24 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. Farm power supply was recorded at 6 hours a day. With 85 cultivators and 43 agricultural labourers in the census, most farm work in the village is done by landholding families themselves.
