Where is Kalewal?

Kalewal is a village in Khamanon tehsil of Fatehgarh Sahib district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Khamanon, about 8 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Khamanon community development block and has its own gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 032914, and it covers 159 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 721 people in Kalewal: 375 men and 346 women, living in 146 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over its 159 hectares, the population density works out to about 453 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 923 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 58, about 8 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 33 people, about 5 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 83.11 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 86.13 per cent and women at 79.81 per cent. The census recorded 249 workers, about 35 per cent of the village. Khamanon, the tehsil headquarters, and Fatehgarh Sahib, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Mirpur, Dholewal, Raipur and Kheri Naudh Singh.
