Where is Kala Tibba?

Kala Tibba is a village in Abohar tehsil of Fazilka district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Abohar, about 5 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Abohar community development block and is served by the KALA TIBBA, Chak kala Tibba gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 035191, and it covers 1,632 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 3,963 people in Kala Tibba: 2,086 men and 1,877 women, living in 754 households, an average of about 5.3 people per household. Spread over its 1,632 hectares, the population density works out to about 243 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 900 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 579, about 15 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 1,909 people, about 48 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 52.6 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 62.27 per cent and women at 41.92 per cent. The census recorded 1,464 workers, about 37 per cent of the village. Of the 1,245 main workers, the largest group, 583, were agricultural labourers, ahead of 493 other workers in trade, transport and services and 163 cultivators on their own land. A further 219 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Farm power supply was recorded at 8 hours a day. The census recorded 167 cultivators and 785 agricultural labourers, so farming supports many labouring families as well as landholders.
