Mohkam Arain is a village in Jalalabad tehsil of Fazilka district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Jalalabad, about 3 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Jalalabad community development block and is served by the Dhani Jug Singh gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 034898, and it covers 561 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 3,131 people in Mohkam Arain: 1,695 men and 1,436 women, living in 639 households, an average of about 4.9 people per household. Spread over its 561 hectares, the population density works out to about 558 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 847 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 478, about 15 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 2,138 people, about 68 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 66.94 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 76.01 per cent and women at 56.55 per cent. The census recorded 1,412 workers, about 45 per cent of the village. Of the 906 main workers, the largest group, 581, were other workers in trade, transport and services, ahead of 173 agricultural labourers and 129 cultivators on their own land. A further 506 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.
