Where is Thatheran Wala?

Thatheran Wala is a village in Jalalabad tehsil of Fazilka district in Punjab, India. It lies in the Malwa region, and the 2011 directory recorded Guru Har Sahai, about 10 kilometres away, as its nearest town. The village falls in the Guru Har Sahai community development block and is served by the THATHERAN WALA,Sekhran gram panchayat. In the census record it carries village code 034856, and it covers 406 hectares.

Population and households

The 2011 census counted 1,115 people in Thatheran Wala: 602 men and 513 women, living in 200 households, an average of about 5.6 people per household. Spread over its 406 hectares, the population density works out to about 275 people per square kilometre. The sex ratio was 852 women for every 1,000 men. Children up to the age of six numbered 131, about 12 per cent of the village. Scheduled Castes made up 200 people, about 18 per cent of the population, and no Scheduled Tribe population was recorded.

Literacy in 2011 stood at 74.19 per cent among residents aged seven and above, with men at 79.58 per cent and women at 68.04 per cent. The census recorded 560 workers, about 50 per cent of the village. Of the 260 main workers, the largest group, 146, were cultivators on their own land, ahead of 81 other workers in trade, transport and services and 26 agricultural labourers. A further 300 people were marginal workers, employed for only part of the year.

Irrigation came mainly from wells and tube-wells (364 hectares). About 42 hectares were under non-agricultural uses such as the village settlement, roads and ponds. The directory recorded Guru Har Sahai, about 10 kilometres away, as the nearest town, and the village has its own railway station. Jalalabad, the tehsil headquarters, and Fazilka town, the district headquarters, are the practical hubs for administration and onward travel. Neighbouring villages include Malikzada, Chak Mahantanwala, Tilu Arain and Mahantanwala.
